Coming on the heels of the nineteen new sets based on The Lego Movie 2 revealed today, the full trailer for the film has now been released. We are getting a good look at the mess that Bricksburg has become in the five years since the first movie premiered, and it seems that the Duplo invaders have left the city in ruins, only to be invaded again by strange creatures from the Systar system. “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” opens nationwide on Friday, February 8, 2019. LEGO has unveiled a whopping nineteen sets from their upcoming sequel, The LEGO Movie 2, and The Brothers Brick has all the details on the new product line. The wave of sets will be available in stores starting on December 26, a month and a half ahead of the movie’s release to theaters. At first glance, there are plenty of exciting minifigures, new elements, part colors, and even a classic space “battle pack.” Some of the sets have a combination of Friends minidolls, System minifigures and faux-Duplo characters all in the same box. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one: 42096 Porsche 911 RSR will be the largest LEGO Technic set of the first half of 2019. First official pictures reveal a 1,580-piece-large replica of one of the most iconic racing vehicles of our days. The set seems to be loaded with various play features: a rear wing with ‘swan neck’ mounts, detailed cockpit, working differential, independent suspension and some more. Unfortunately, the model features no working gear box, but its brilliant design seems to make up for any missing mechanism. Who needs riches when the best part of your day is food? This plump little guy is all about his next meal rather than gold. Sassafras the “Happy-Go-Lucky” dragon is the work of Mitch Henry, who designed him for a dragon building contest hosted by Jayfa, an excellent builder we’ve featured numerous times. A few months ago, russian builder Timofey Tkachev has uploaded a photo of his latest build in progress on his Flickr photostream. In said photo, the two versions of the same face threw me off from what I should immediately have guessed to be the beginning of the bust of Warcraft’s Sylvannas Windrunner, the banshee queen. The facial features are captured perfectly, displaying a beautiful woman turned into a monster. Her characteristic features like the slender pointy ears, elongated eyebrows and a heavy eyeliner smeared by tears are immediately recognizable, but it is the more general details of a humanoid face that are really amazing. The lips are very realistic, using a double feather piece on each side and the nose is not only realistic, but looks like something a model would spend a lot of money on at a plastic surgeon. Back in 1941, World War II inspired ceramic manufacturer Royal Doulton to release a patriotic bulldog figure. Royal Doulton re-released the bulldog in 2012 to coincide with its appearance in the film, Skyfall. Since LEGO Ideas is currently running a James Bond contest, Victor decided to build a nearly 1:1 scale LEGO version of the bulldog. Anyone who has ever fallen in love with the romance of the Lamborghini knows the seductive power of its lines. The Centanario, designed in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Ferruccio Lamborghini, exemplifies everything brilliant about the alluring shape of its cars. Builder Lachlan Cameron has pulled out all the stops to replicate the sweeping form of the Centanario in LEGO Technic form. Sliding carefully selected Technic beams over flexi tube, he has captured the unique flow from bonnet to mudguards that defines the car. Add in a host of features such as superbly modelled doors, bucket seats and functioning lighting and you have a fitting tribute to one of today’s most recognisable supercars. Sheo, the master of beautiful, organic, strange, and sometimes creepy LEGO art, is back with yet another bizarre creation. While it may not be quite as creepy at first glance, imagine the slow turn of the ever-smiling head. Or maybe take a look at that smaller pair of hands, with their evil-looking claws. Yep, terrifying. Freakiness aside, CoRob the construction robot is actually pretty cool. This automaton can transform into a variety of helpful job-site equipment. In the year 2018, Aquasharks is not a word that would turn many heads apart from the occasional hardcore adult LEGO fan. For the younger crowd, Aquasharks is an underwater LEGO theme from the 90’s that had some imaginative set designs and play features like magnets (which, admittedly, were everywhere back then). As opposed to some other themes from the same years, this particular one doesn’t seem to get much love from the online LEGO community, but luckily Jonas Obermaier is here to give it five minutes of glory… perhaps this time we won’t forget about it again? The build is technically a hardsuit, but the heavy use of minifig parts (the core of the top half is based on the Aquasharks SCUBA gear) blurs the line between a heavily modified minifig and a compact mecha. Builder Bruce Lowell built a bust of Boba Fett using a technique he made popular known as the Lowell Sphere but left it unfinished 5 years ago.
