LEGO Star Wars Fall 2018 sets unveiled in New York, including classic X-wing [News]
LEGO’s event today in New York City has unveiled more of the LEGO Star Wars sets that the company had held back from Toy Fair in February. Although much of the event is focused on the current product assortment, including sets like 75208 Yoda’s Hut and all of the Solo: A Star Wars Story LEGO sets, the event has given us a look at some exciting new sets being released over the next few months.
75214 Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter | 247 pieces | $19.99 | Available August 1
No matter what you think of the Prequel Trilogy, you can probably agree that Obi-wan’s Jedi starfighter with its enormous hyperdrive ring looks pretty cool, as seen in the current 75191 Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive. The Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor is a frequent subject of LEGO sets, with and without the hyperdrive ring. Nevertheless, it’s been 10 years since LEGO released an update to 7669 Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter. Like its predecessor, this version includes Anakin Skywalker (with a normal minifigure face design rather than a Clone Wars cartoon design) alongside R2-D2.
75216 Snoke’s Throne Room | 492 pieces | $69.99 | Available August 1
When The Last Jedi sets were first released, one major character (or group of characters) was missing from the lineup: the Elite Praetorian Guards. The good news is, we get two of them in this set. The bad news is we don’t get all three types, only two identical ones, so we won’t yet be able to complete the whole crew we saw in the movie. Although Snoke’s Throne Room in the film seemed to be much more vast than this set appears, it captures the look adequately, and offers a more economical way to acquire Supreme Leader Snoke, Rey, and Kylo Ren all in the one set.
75218 X-Wing Starfighter | 731 pieces | $79.99 | Available August 1
The first Incom T-65 X-wing starfighter from the Classic Trilogy since 9493 in 2012, this new LEGO X-wing features several of the parts (like the cockpit canopy) and building techniques introduced with 75102 Poe’s X-wing Fighter and 75149 Resistance X-wing Fighter (which were both the newer T-70 model of X-wing). Like several of the previous classic X-wings, this version includes two pairs of pilots and astromech droids — Luke Skywalker with R2-D2 and Biggs Darklighter with R2-BHD. Although the minifigures at the event didn’t have their helmets on, the official photo reveals a new dual molded helmet with a transparent orange visor.
75220 Sandcrawler | 1239 pieces | $139.99 | Available August 1
LEGO has released several Jawa sandcrawler sets over the years, but the previous 75059 UCS Sandcrawler was a massive beast of a vehicle at over 3,000 parts — it’s been 13 years since LEGO has released a smaller, System-scale sandcrawler (10144 in 2005). This version includes six minifigures — two Jawas, Luke Skywalker, a weathered 2-1B medical droid, an R5 astromech, and a protocol droid. The build seems to use the same studs-out panel construction as the UCS version, rather than the conventional brick construction seen in the 2005 version.
LEGO also had their Milennium Falcon pedicab from May The Fourth available at the event, so Editor Andrew took the opportunity to get some photos.
