2023 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 17 [Feature]

Do you hear that, readers? That’s the sound of Christmas getting ever closer! And what better way to count down to the big day than with day 17 of TBB’s LEGO advent calendar roundup? That’s just what we’re doing, so why not join us as we open up the City, Friends, Star Wars, Harry Potter and Marvel calendars on offer this year?

As ever, our intrepid TBB team is on hand with witty comments, insightful observations, and bad jokes for each day’s builds. And of course, you can add your own thoughts in the comments section each day! So without further ado, let’s crack open the build for day 17…

We got our first Christmas tree pretty early on on day 12, and LEGO City gets a similar one today. In the Friends calendar, a feast has been laid out for the animals. One of them has nicked a turkey leg!

It’s a mixed bag from the licensed calendars. The latest Harry Potter minifigure is Madam Rosmerta – I confess I did have to look her up; she’s a barkeep in Hogsmeade. Since we’re on an Endor kick in Star Wars, I assume today’s build is an AT-ST, although it looks more like an AT-DP from Rebels if you ask me. Marvel’s offering is a single piece: Dr Strange’s Cloak of Levitation.

Lino: For today Friends produces the finest fertilizer for your garden.

Daniel: This tree is the best so far for pine trees but not the best decorated tree with so few attachment points for lights. The Cloak of Levitation is great but is a bit sparse for a ‘build’.

Kyle: For the second time this month, Friends presents a “pile of things” as their entry. City’s tree is my favorite of the coniferous options this year.

Ben: A cape, for when you’ve already had a bag of energy effects for a day. Fun fact, with a couple extra pieces this cape makes a great chair. Thankfully, Friends gives us some spare parts today…

Bart: I can’t work out what’s worse, Friends’ second pile of stuff or just a cape…

So no Loki to go with the throne from yesterday, at least for now. Let’s hope we do at least get the expected minifigure this time around. It would be a bit strange (hah!) to get just the cloak with no-one to wear it.
