It’s that time of year, BrickNerd fans! Time to ditch the scarves and mittens and dig out the flip-flops and Panama hats! It’s also a great time to review some summertime-themed MOCs because the temperatures outside are going up, up, up and the kids are heading out on summer break!
Yes, we are going back in time to look at some of the hottest MOCs of the season. To set the mood, enjoy a DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince classic while you peruse this article. And if you look really close in the video, you might even be able to see yours truly in the background. No joke!
Beach House 2
We start with Beach House 2… (I must have missed the first movie). One option for summer fun is to rent a house by the ocean, especially if you’ve got a big crew: family, friends, or all of the above. This MOC by Sebastian Zaberca is probably not the setting for a terrifying teenage horror movie, thank goodness, but it does look like a great place to spend a few weeks in the sun.
Beach Fruit Hut
No relation to Jabba. This detail-packed scene by BrickNerd’s own Miro Dudas really captures the essence of a seaside refreshment shack. Nothing beats a frozen mango smoothie on a hot summer’s day! Unless mango makes you break out in hives, then you better stick to the lemonade.
The Old Man And The Sea
Summer vacations aren’t just for school aged kids! This scene by vir-a-chocha is deceptively simple in its composition. But it’s loaded with all sorts of interesting techniques to create a convincing portrait. And grandpa’s still rockin’ the Hawaiian shirt!
The Seaside Lemonade Cafe
This cute cafe by Leofric Earl of Mercia just screams summer. According to the builder, it’s “a LEGO seaside MOC inspired by the Paradisa sets from the 1990s.” You don’t say!?! They forgot to mention all the serious upgrades.
Beach Bar
This lifeguard station libation destination by Jonas Obermaier offers up what look to be some popular drinks. I just hope they’re off duty! The many different fences are lovely and never what you expect. (And hey, is that Leia working on her tan?)
S’mores
No summer round-up is complete without the traditional campfire treat! Here we have a quiet moment by the fire, built by BrickNerd guest contributor and color genius Rylie Howerter. Remember, not every summer getaway is to the sea, of course. Many people prefer to swap the sharks, jellyfish and blistering sunburns at the beach by heading into the woods with the bears, ticks, and poison ivy. This scene was likely an experiment with interesting connections of the legal and not-so-legal variety. But that squishy, chocolaty, crispy sandwich makes it all worthwhile! I want s’more!
Ewok Barbecue
Why let a good fire go to waste? Here we’ve got an Ewok taking advantage of a legendary funeral pyre with a nice juicy footlong. Talk about a well-done villain… Builder gonkius clearly relishes his dark humor!
Okay, gang, that just about does it for today! Hope you enjoyed our little summer season MOC kick-off! But what these builds should really remind you to do is… get outside and play!!!
What do you have planned for the summer, LEGO or otherwise? Or are you in the Southern Hemisphere looking forward to skiing? Let us know in the comments!
