Our pals at the LEGO Car Blog accurately predicted my reaction to this outstanding rendition of Darth Vader's iconic ship from builder Jerac. There's so many cool details and accurate styling on it I don't know where to start, I'll just point enthusiastically at the screen and make "ohh ohh" sounds, ok? Fun Fact: While it's a romantic notion to think this was Darth Vader's ship because he's a super baddie and needed an equally badass ship, the design has a much more practical origin, namely to be able to tell who's who during the battle of Yavin. What better way to celebrate the release of the latest Marvel movie, and the biggest box office smash in history, than with a teeny tiny micro build of the main characters, the Avengers. Builder 2 Much Caffeine took a literal handful of parts and assembled the greatest super-hero team ever to grace the pages of comics or the big screen (unless you're a Super Friends or Justice League fan, in which case I invite you to debate below). Sleek and grey and deadly — a predator slips through the swell. At least that’s the image conjured up by Luis Peña‘s latest LEGO creation — a microscale model of a Porter-class US Navy destroyer. Although small in scale and simple in colour selection, this model manages to pack in some nice details and textures. I particularly like the use of “Wolverine claws” and quarter-circle tiles in the creation of the ship’s anti-aircraft emplacements. The Porter was a class of eight heavy destroyers in the United States Navy. Although originally commissioned by Congress in 1916, construction was delayed and the first of the vessels didn’t enter service until 1936. The destroyers went on to see action throughout the Second World War. Only one, USS Porter herself, was to be lost in action. The new LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series 75181 Y-wing Starfighter launches on May the Fourth this Friday, and we’ll be bringing you our hands-on review at midnight GMT on May 4th, so check back later this week for our own review. Last year’s LEGO Ninjago Movie (the third installment of the LEGO Movie franchise) has led to the release of the largest modular city set in the entire expert line, 70620 Ninjago City, and the announced 70657 Ninjago City Docks. The modular nature of these sets is the inspiration for our latest collaborative display at BrickCon 2018 this October. We were even able to do a test display recently at Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) in March. This year’s collaboration will be open to any of our TBB readers who are planning to attend the BrickCon private convention (unfortunately, we can’t accept drop-offs during the public hours). The display at ECCC was well-received by both builders and the general public, and there was a lot of discussions during the event about how to make the display even bigger and better for BrickCon.
