We recently covered a bunch of new sets announced for many LEGO themes during the Fall 2018 preview event in New York, and there were 13 new sets from the Friends theme, including the advent calendar. I got my hands on early copies of 12 of those sets for review. I divided them into three groups. There were 5 sets focused on customizable go-cart racing, 4 sets centered on Heartlake City businesses and lastly, two sets of bedrooms, and the Friendship Box. Thanks to Chris Elliot, the 1927 Csikós Bismuth Sport Coupé comes to life in LEGO-form! What’s that you’re saying? You’ve never heard of a car company called Csikós? There is a reason for that…It never existed! Now that we know Chris’ car was a work of fiction, how did he come to design and name it? Stylistically, Chris drew inspiration from a few real-life automobiles including including a prewar Bugatti (sharing a color scheme with the new LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron. In naming the car, Chris turned to his Hungarian heritage and the language of his ancestors. Today in Billund at LEGO headquarters, LEGO and Bugatti have officially announced the brand new LEGO Technic 42083 Bugatti Chiron, the second set in the LEGO Technic Ultimate Series of supercars following last year’s Porsche 911 GT3 RS release. The big reveal today was held at the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark by the CEO of the LEGO Group, Neils B. Christiansen, together with the President of Bugatti, Stephan Winkelmann. Built at 1:8 scale from 3,599 parts, this will be the third-largest set in the Technic lineup, after the recently revealed 2018 Rough Terrain Crane (40282) and the 2016 release of the Bucket Wheel Excavator. Do you want to build a snowman? — ask no more as cute little Olaf will be one of three new Disney characters to be released in upcoming LEGO BrickHeadz sets. According to the most recent LEGO Facebook announcement, two new Disney sets are to be released very soon, bringing Olaf, Anna, and Elsa figures in the style of BrickHeadz. The smaller of two sets will contain the figure of Elsa only, while the bigger one will include Anna and Olaf, whose head design is based on a 3x3x3 cube (rather than the traditional BrickHeadz size of 4x4x4 studs). A few years have passed from The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit hysteria that included an official LEGO theme, but many builders still find inspiration in Tolkien’s fantasy universe. Roanoke Handybuck is one of these builders and his latest creation is Beorn’s house. We can see the party of dwarves accompanied by the Grey Wizard and Bilbo Baggins meeting the master of the house. The builder uses colours and their combinations to great advantage, especially mixing the dark tan and olive green, which seem to naturally fit together. Do not limit your attention only to the beautifully flowing roof, because the stonework of the house’s walls is quite impressive too, as is a plethora of details spread around the diorama. LEGO has announced today that Pop-Up Book project by Jason Allemann and Grant Davis will be the next set in the LEGO Ideas line. This project was selected from a pool of 7 ideas that had gathered 10,000 supporters by January 8, 2018. The project was originally submitted to the LEGO Ideas platform on August 25, 2016, so it took the project a little more than a year to gather support of 10.000 fans. Pricing and availability for this set are yet to be announced. The LEGO Ideas Blog interviewed Jason and Grant back in April 2018, where they talked about the inspiration and the challenges they faced creating the model.
