On July 1st, 2013—exactly one decade ago—Tommy Williamson debuted Nerdly, the glasses-wearing mascot of a site called BrickNerd. (The site actually launched a full six months before that, but the brick-built bespectacled red 2x2 was introduced in the summer.) Nerdly has since become a symbol for all things nerdy about the bricks, popping up in contests and countries all around the globe. History to Live Up To To celebrate BrickNerd and Nerdly’s 10th birthday, we wanted to go big! The plan was to build a 10x size Nerdly to premiere at Brickworld Chicago and then tour around LEGO fan conventions to encourage readers to participate in the BrickNerd Brigade, showing off how they have made Nerdly their own. The plan actually harkened back to a live build at San Diego Comic-Con in 2015 where Tommy built a large version of Nerdly in front of an audience of enthusiastic fans. So one...

We don’t talk about new LEGO sets much at BrickNerd—there are a plethora of other great sites that do that. However to help us keep the quality up and ads down, we need your help. If you are going to purchase any new LEGO sets and want to help out BrickNerd simultaneously, we ask that you use our affiliate link for LEGO.com. It is a great way to support community-focused journalism without costing you more than you already spend on LEGO. You can support BrickNerd at the same time you get your Disney Castle, Hocus Pocus house, or Eldorado Fortress. Even if you pre-porder some Dreamzzz or just get a keychain using our link, we appreciate the help. June is over and we’re in the midst of Summer - time to sit back and enjoy a cocktail of great features, insightful articles and deep dives from all across the LEGO community! We are lucky to have this many outlets and channels that keep creating incredible content, and these are the best of the month. Here at BrickNerd, we put LEGO under the microscope and also looked at larger-than-life minifigures. We got nerdy about more LEGO SNOT and (missing) LEGO colors, and looked at how toys might be able to help equaling the playing field. We discovered Rome (twice!) and Venice made from bricks, and visited Sydney, Nevada, the UK, and Kobe, Japan. And on top of that, looked at Bio-Cup villains, went to the arcade, did some alt-building, revived old LEGO themes and 12V train track and talked (to) Big Planes. In fact, we’ve published so many interesting articles...

Her accessories include a sword and an hourglass. She also has Bunchu stuffed animal. The other figure in the set is the Grimspawn. It has a solid black mold with the arms and legs. The head has some printing for its yellow eyes. It also wears a black helmet with a magenta flame. The arms...

The Exhibit Floor layout has been released for San Diego Comic Con 2023 and we can confirm that LEGO will be on display once again. They’ll be at their usual spot at Booth #2829 although we don’t know yet what will be on display there. If I had to make a guess, I would think there will be something involving LEGO DREAMZzz since it’s their newest IP. In addition, we’re not sure if there will be any exclusive LEGO sets or minifigures that will be given away like with previous years. If you remember, LEGO didn’t have anything last year besides some panels and I’ve heard rumors that they were done with exclusives so we’ll see since companies have been starting to ramp up their reveals as we speak. I will be there once as press so I’ll be attending most, if not all, the LEGO panels and will be reporting...

Welcome back to Rome! Or, rather, Rocco Buttliere’s 1:650 scale version of it. En route to replicating the entire part of the Eternal City that lay behind the ancient city walls, this world-class architecture building expert has finished Phase I of the monumental task, covering about a tenth of the area that eventually will make up the SPQR project. The city center of ancient Rome, in all its 104.000-brick splendour. Photo © Rocco Buttliere, MMXXIII We sat down with Rocco to discuss the endeavour. If you haven’t already, make sure to read Part I of the interview first, where Rocco talks about how he came up with the idea, his meticulous research, angles and shapes that are difficult to get right using the square medium of LEGO, and using Stud.io during the design process. Devil in the Details BrickNerd: I have to say, my head still hurts a bit from looking...
