In my last review of the LEGO Avatar: The Way of Water sets, we check out Payakan the Tulkun & Crabsuit (75579). The largest set in the wave consists of 761 pieces and retails for $99.99. Minifigures There are three minifigures in the set, the Crabsuit Driver, Lo’ak, and Tsireya. The Crabsuit Driver has a very detailed military torso that could potentially be used as an army builder. The same goes for the legs as well. He has a pretty generic angry face and wears a beanie. Lo’ak has a fairly boring look to him with nothing that really stands out for him. This also goes the same for Tsireya however her torso does show some metallic silver coverings. This is the same minifigure as in the Ilu Discovery (75575). Build Like with all the other LEGO Avatar: The Way of Water sets, there are some small, colorful coral builds that...

Best of BrickNerd - Article originally published March 28, 2021. One of the best parts of LEGO is creating new worlds—worlds that often come to life with well-thought backstories. The same goes for paintings, like the work of artist Jakub Różalski who creates alternate universes on canvas. His classic style of paintings often combines a rural landscape with mechs in the background. These mechs often look peaceful but you can feel the silent threat of the machines in the distance. His creative work has been used for the board game Scythe and the recent real-time strategy game Iron Harvest. Recently, members from the Polish LUG Zbudujmy To were inspired by Różalski’s work and decided to use it as the inspiration behind a fantastic online collab. Mihal, one of the builders in the collab takes us through some of the progress. Learning Some History About 1920+ Marco: Thanks for chatting with us today! To...

Top of the mornin’ to ya, brick-building aficionados! You don’t have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, so crack a set open (or maybe even a beer) and try your luck building this little guy. Here are instructions to build a LEGO leprechaun complete with a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! We wanted to give you something green and we came up with this green mean money-making machine on your screen. Instructions to Build a Leprechaun The build starts with the stand, which in this case is a pot with no gold. (We'll get there, don't worry, I know you came for the coins.) Right after that, we bring some color to the build with a simple rainbow. Finally, when you have everything built and ready, get around 20 gold studs and just drop them into the pot. Today’s guest article comes from Kelly Bartlett who shares how creating multiple drafts of a LEGO MOC can help with problem-solving and the creative process. Recently, I built a LEGO MOC for someone who wanted a 1:1 scale model of a laptop. It seemed like a fairly straightforward commissioned project, but I ended up going through several drafts before I deemed it “complete.” Whether builders design their MOCs digitally or build them with bricks like I do, we inevitably go through various drafts, making changes along the way before arriving at a final product. So let me take you through my process of designing the “BrickBook Pro” and how problem-solving over the course of multiple drafts made the end result a better creation. First Draft: Shape and Color The first draft of any MOC I build is to explore the basic shape and look of the build. It is quick and...
