Micro builds allow your imagination to fly free. They’re small in size but large in creativity, like this futuristic complex by builder Dan_Sto. With it’s stacked, irregularly rotated blocks it looks like something from a sci-fi movie. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it’s actually based on a real structure. The future is now! (where’s my flying car?) Original linkOriginal author: Tommy
If video games are any indication the weapons of the future are going to be pretty crazy, if not downright wacky. Check out this number from Destiny 2 by BrickinNick, which is as colorful as it is futuristic. Nick even successfully developed a four shot semiautomatic mechanism, check out this video to see it in action. Original linkOriginal author: Tommy
He’s got it all going on, quick, slick, Incredibly thick neck, biceps to spare, covered in hair, etc. All the stuff the ladies in the village are after, well except one… He’s Gaston, and Belle just isn’t interested, and man that chaps his hide. A wonderfully perfect rendition by builder retinence. Original linkOriginal author: Tommy
There are several clues that the holidays are upon us. For one, EVERY retailer has already flooded the shelves with stuff slathered in glitter. Second, the premium car companies have started their annual “you don’t really love your spouse unless you bought him/her a car” campaigns. But most importantly Chris McVeigh has unveiled his first ornament of the season! It’s also a compliment for one of my personal favorites from a couple years ago, the burger. Head over to his website to download instructions and start the season off right, with some building! Original linkOriginal author: Tommy
Professor Dumbledore is one of my favorite characters from the books and movies of Harry Potter (but I will say, I preferred Richard Harris’ portrayal over Gambon’s). He was a total badass and knew it, but didn’t let it go to his head or flaunt it. There was a reason you-know-who was afraid of him. Builder Pate-keetongu has crafted a fitting version of the powerful wizard, and his venerable phoenix Fawkes. Original linkOriginal author: Tommy
Science has not been able to adequately describe or justify the popularity of Boba Fett. When The Empire Strikes Back came out in 1980 he was already a legend, having been the subject of much anticipation as an mail-in action figure. Then he was in the movie for a grand total of less than seven minutes and spoke 27 words…And we didn’t care at all, he was AWESOME. Speaking of awesome, check out this bust by bruceywan, he did the bounty hunter justice. Original linkOriginal author: Tommy
The digital generation will probably look back on this time in 20-30 years and shake their collective heads in embarrassment. When life accomplishments were only real with photo documentation, and everyone’s dinner was never so well cataloged. And when concerts were enjoyed through a 5” screen at arms length and self worth was measured against countless other attempts at a perfect life through selfies. This is pretty well illustrated by this piece by builder 74louloute, real life has never been so not real. Original linkOriginal author: Tommy
Builder Rat Dude has definite ideas about life after the apocalypse, and I have to admit they’re pretty cool. This is The Last Paradise, comprised of modified and specific use cargo containers lumbering along on giant treads. There’s an equipment container, a cool container, a machine container, a storage container, a bum container (whatever that is), and three container devoted to living space. And hey, it’s equipped with solar, so it’s good for whatever is left of the environment. Original linkOriginal author: Tommy
There’s a million reasons builders take a break. And I get it, sometimes you don’t have time, life gets in the way, you’re just a little burned out, or whatever. And when I don’t see much from a prolific builder I assume they have their reasons. But having a stroke is quite possibly one of the worst reasons, as is the case of one of my favorite builders redfern1950s2. I’m very happy to report that Red is doing ok, and making a speedy recovery, and even built this charming little MOC as a gift to the caregivers at the ward. Wishing you a speedy recovery Red!
