LEGO Ideas Pixar Luxo Jr. (21357) Review

The new LEGO Ideas Pixar Luxo Jr. (21357) was just announced a few days ago we’re checking it out to see if it’s worth picking up. The set has 613 pieces and will retail for $69.99 which is a relatively cheaper LEGO Ideas compared to the previous few releases.


Build
The first part of the build is for the Pixar Ball. It has a neat building technique to get it to the almost perfectly round shape. The “frame” of it actually contains some Easter eggs hidden within the four columns. These include Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, Sully and Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc., Alfredo Linguini and Remy from Ratatouille, and Carl Fredericksen and Russell from Up.




After that, there are some plate areas that include references to characters from The Incredibles. Triangle pieces are used to cover up the gaps that can’t be covered by the printed dome pieces.





On to Luxo Jr., the base of the lamp also is filled with more Pixar references including Joy and Sadness from Inside Out, Lightning McQueen and Mater from Cars, Miguel Rivera and marigold from Coco, and Flik and Dot from A Bug’s Life.


There’s a swivel joint right above the base which is secured by a ball joint brick underneath to lock it in place. The curved tiles cover up that area nicely and can’t even tell that it’s there.
