Best of BrickNerd - Article originally published September 15, 2022. Today we feature a guest article from one of BrickNerd’s patrons Liz Puleo. She shares her experience growing as an AFOL and how ADHD has impacted her LEGO journey. One Thing Leads To Another Well, that escalated quickly. In the blink of an eye, I feel like I went from being a casual LEGO fan to part of the LEGO community to competing on LEGO Masters US Season 3. Let me quickly recap everything that has happened in my life relating to LEGO in the past two years. It began innocently at home—my family and I amassed a rather large LEGO collection for fun. Trying to sort this collection found me conversing with other adults in the LEGO community online including BrickNerd. Chatting with them online helped me find other adults in my area (a LUG) that built with LEGO. Building with...

Best of BrickNerd - Article originally published September 28, 2022. What do Dr. Strange, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, and Disney characters all have in common? They’re subjects built into MOCs by the talented Josh Parkinson of course! Last month I covered the holy grail of nerdiness, Emerald City Comicon (ECCC), and the group of AFOLs that I hung out with there called Brick Nation. As part of the story, we took a minute to talk to one of the builders who presented MOCs there, Josh Parkinson, to get his first-timer ECCC experience recap. It turns out that while we chatted, he was so fascinating that I got to asking him other questions that ranged far past ECCC… so I decided to split it out into a second article. So here we are! It’s always exciting to get to learn about another builder—everyone has such a unique and fascinating story to tell...

As reported yesterday, the promotion for the LEGO Disney 100 Years Celebration (40600) is now available again on the LEGO Shop. You can get the set for free with purchases of $100 in LEGO Disney and Disney DUPLO but it excludes Star Wars and Marvel. In addition, you can get the LEGO Houses of the World 3 (40594) with purchases of $250 or more. There’s a lot of new sets that have been released since the two promotions initially ran a few months ago so it’s a little easier to get them. Both promos will run from now until September 30, while supplies last. As a Rakuten/Linkshare Affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases. Once upon a time, I was displaying my LEGO Beatles album covers at a crowded event on a tightly packed table, and a handsy child reached over the barricade. *TOUCH* Propped on easels, the thirteen album covers fell like dominoes. The MOC on the end shot dramatically in the air, flipping three times in slow motion. I leapt to the table’s edge, and caught “Please, Please Me” inches before it crashed to the floor. (It lived to see another day and even made the trip to Denmark.) All’s well that ends well. Relax, We’ve Got Braille Bricks! Many AFOLs have stories about unwanted LEGO advances when their MOCs have been on public display. Our LUGs post “do not touch” signs for a reason. So many of our building techniques are frail on a good day, and many more MOCs are held together with a whisper and a prayer. This article is...

Toys R Us in the Asia Pacific region has started a new promotion called the LEGO Mini Hobby Series which features a series of small builds revolving around various hobbies. Each week until the end of October, there will be a new build to collect when you spend a certain amount. They aren’t listed as the annual Bricktober sets although TRU Canada lists them as part of the Bricktober deals. We’ll see if they come as LEGO Insiders Rewards in the future. Note that Toys R Us Canada also has some of the builds but not all of them. • Bowling – 9/22 – 9/27• Camping – 9/28 – 10/2• Car Racing – 10/3 – 10/8• Music – 10/9 – 10/13• Baking – 10/14 – 10/18• Arcade Gaming – 1019 – 10/23 The post LEGO Toys R Us Mini Hobby Series Revealed appeared first on The Brick Fan. We’ve received word that the “sold out” LEGO Disney 100 Years Celebration (40600) gift with purchase set will be coming back in a few days. From September 23-30, you can get the set with $100 purchase of LEGO Disney and Disney DUPLO. This also excludes Star Wars and Marvel even though they’re owned by Disney. If you remember, the Disney 100 Years Celebration promotion went live in July and it sold out in less than a day. LEGO Brand Stores also reportedly didn’t get much in stock as well. Either LEGO had some production shortage of the set when it initially rolled out or they produced some more in the months since then due to the limited run a few months ago. … Continue The post LEGO Disney 100 Years Celebration (40600) Promotion Returning Soon appeared first on The Brick Fan. Today’s article is brought to you by BrickNerd Contributor Emeritus and LEGO Masters contestant Philip Straatsma. BrickSlopes Do you have a LEGO-related bucket list? If so, what is on it? Is it a set that you want to own, a MOC that you have not built yet, or maybe an experience you wish to have? For me an experience high on my list has always been to attend BrickSlopes, a LEGO fan event in Salt Lake City, Utah. I’d been to Salt Lake City once before in 2021 and fell in love with the place. No matter where you looked, mountains surrounded you. And, maybe it was the thin air speaking, but somehow the sky just seemed bigger in Salt Lake City—explain that to me. But I think where SLC really shines is in its AFOL community. When I was there in 2021 for an unrelated event, ULUG, the local LEGO...
