Today is the last day to get your orders in for the LEGO Amelia Ticket Booth (5009157) gift with purchase set. The only way to get it, aside from the secondary market, is to purchase the new LEGO Ideas River Steamboat (21356) which is the 64th LEGO Ideas set that LEGO has released. If the ticket booth doesn’t sell out today, we could possibly see it come back in the future. You can also combine it with the Easter Egg Chick Painting Fun (30690) polybag as well. As a Rakuten/Linkshare Affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases. The post Last Day for LEGO Amelia Ticket Booth (5009157) GWP appeared first on The Brick Fan. It’s About Time! The art of telling time using mechanical principals has been around for many hundreds of years. What started out as a necessity has become largely artistic and aesthetic in the digital age. Many still love the history of mechanical clocks as well as the engineering challenge they present. Given that many AFOLs are also engineers, it’s not surprising to see many examples of LEGO clocks have been created over the years. Time’s a-wastin’, BrickNerd Fans, so let’s dive into some of the best clocks the community has to offer! Grandfather Clock Grandfather clocks, also called long case or tall case clocks, are one of the most recognizable clock styles today. Often found lurking in living rooms, these majestic timepieces come in many variations, both in a physical case as well as mechanical functionality. They can often blend into a room’s decor, but this seven-foot-tall red and yellow grandfather...

IMAGE COURTESY OF LEGO VIA JAY’S BRICK BLOG Like a sleeper agent, I was activated when I was given the words “LEGO updated a visual identity.” Originally, that was all this article was going to be about. For some time, I mulled it over and figured there had to be more to talk about. Follow along for another of my mad ramblings, identifying the greater complexity when a theme beckons for more than was ever intended for it. Back in January, LEGO released 31214 LOVE, a beautifully crafted replica of Robert Indiana’s similarly titled 1970 sculpture, based on his 1965 painting, based on his 1964 Christmas card… but that’s a story for another article already brilliantly covered by our very own Dave Schefcik. What was interesting about this release is that it concreted a new direction in the LEGO Art theme itself. It came with a new theme logo! More on...

Today’s guest article is by Val Dmitrieff from Vancouver, Canada, who is the current Vice President and charity coordinator for the VLC (formerly Vancouver LEGO Club), which is celebrating its 25th year as a group. Origins of the VLC It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since a handful of LEGO fans in Vancouver, Canada decided to make things official. What started as a few like-minded enthusiasts gathering around kitchen tables has grown into a thriving, award-winning, community-driven LEGO club known as VLC—Vancouver’s Community for Adult Fans of LEGO. Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, AFOL life in western Canada wasn’t quite what it is today. If you were lucky, you found someone on LUGNET. If you were really lucky, you made the trip to Seattle to hang out with SeaLUG. But for a group of LEGO fans in the Vancouver area—Robin, Dean, Alex, Bryan, Andrew, and Kevin—the...

In 2010, AFOL: A Blocumentary was released, highlighting the lives of several members of the early AFOL community of the late 2000s. Back then, being a fan of LEGO past the recommended age printed on the sets was not as “cool” as it is today. In fact, dare I say, the lifestyle of an AFOL as presented in the documentary was actually quite awkward. Yes, there was a time when an adult purchasing LEGO for themselves was not something to trumpet online. Fast forward to the present, and there isn’t a better time in The LEGO Group’s history than now to enter the hobby as an adult enthusiast. The LEGO Movie and LEGO Masters both brought the brick to a new level of status in popular culture, the latter making the creative talent in the LEGO community more known in the public eye, where previously it would have been unknown. And...

Welcome back to “The Conversation Piece,” a BrickNerd series authored by our friends over at the Builder Improvement Initiative (BII), a Discord-based community that helps LEGO builders of all levels get better at their craft through knowledge-sharing and feedback. This will be a place for you to ask all of your trickier questions about creativity and building out of LEGO bricks. Have a question you'd like us to consider for a future article? You can submit it here. Enjoy! How Do You Decide What to Build? Anonymous asks: “Do you always have an idea for a certain build? If not, how do you come up with or obtain said idea?” In any artistic hobby, creativity is a critical skill to have. However, all creative works need to start with an idea. Most of the time, we tend to go into the build process with some inkling of what we want to...

There is one day left to get your hands on the LEGO Icons Smeagol & Deagol (40761) gift with purchase set. You can only get it when you purchase the LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings The Shire (10354). The GWP has lasted through the whole promotional period which is surprising. If it doesn’t sell out, we could see it return at a future date. LEGO Insiders still also have one day left for double points on Rivendell (10316) and Barad-Dur (10333).
